Assessing and looking forward on the evolving face of Asia

Monday, 30 September
4:00pm~5:00pm

The growth in the Asian private investment market over recent years can be attributed to various factors, including evolving regulatory landscapes, rising interest in alternative asset classes among investors, and the expansion of regional economies to attract foreign investors, to name a few.

In this seminar, our speakers will examine the latest trends concerning investment funds operating in the financial hubs of Hong Kong and Japan.

Japan has continued to see a significant increase in activity as a wide range of international fund managers seek to establish new operations in Japan. Since the implementation of the various initiatives by the Japanese government both at the municipal and national levels, a significant number of financial institutions have established offices in Japan. As one of the leading law firms assisting foreign fund managers in entering Japan to engage in a regulated business, Withers Tokyo will discuss both the regulatory and practical challenges to clients that are exploring the opportunity to set up a regulated business in Japan.

Separately, despite various commentaries, Hong Kong has remained one of the leading international asset and wealth management hubs in the world – backed by statistics in terms of the total AUM and the number of asset management firms based in Hong Kong. There has been growing interest in setting up local fund structures such as limited partnership funds and open-ended fund companies. We will discuss market trends and why Hong Kong is still the place to be.

The session will delve into the investment opportunities and challenges that investors may encounter when capitalising on the growing investment potential in APAC.

Outlook for the data center market in Japan

Monday, 30 September
5:00pm~6:00pm

As companies push ahead with their digital transformation plans, Japan has seen a spike in demand for data centers. According to Fuji Chimera Research Institute, Japan's data center market is forecast to surpass 4.0 trillion yen by 2026. The appeal of investing in data centers in Japan lies in the country's political stability, robust legal safeguards and reliable electricity grid with few power outages – factors that resonate strongly with investors.

In this seminar, our speakers will discuss the evolving landscape of data centers in Japan, exploring the inherent opportunities and the most appropriate investment structure to use – TMK and TK/GK – for each unique situation. This discussion aims to provide valuable insights when it comes to investing in these asset classes while ensuring optimal tax efficiency.
