Lasting powers of attorney lawyers
Lasting powers of attorney are used to appoint someone else to manage the affairs of a person should they become mentally incapacitated.
Powers of attorney may be needed immediately, or you may wish to arrange them for a future eventuality. When the time comes your attorney can take decisions relating to your property and finances, and/or health and welfare.
With a broad international client base, we often advise elderly people, their families and carers on how lasting powers of attorney – known as a durable power of attorney in the US and Singapore, and an enduring power of attorney in Hong Kong – may be used around the world.
In most cases this is a straightforward matter to arrange: our primary role is to help you to choose a suitable attorney, agree suitable terms for their appointment, and to ensure that you and they understand what is involved. However, we also assist attorneys, Court of Protection deputies, elderly clients and their families when disputes arise over powers of attorney. An example might be if an attorney makes a gift that is challenged by a family member.
