Maanya is a member of the international arbitration and public international law groups, and a New Zealand qualified lawyer.
Prior to joining Withers, Maanya worked in investment treaty arbitration and public international law at a boutique London firm, where she acted for sovereign State clients in arbitration disputes, including under ICSID Rules, and advised clients on a range of public international law issues.Previously, Maanya was an international legal adviser at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. There, she advised on a wide range of public international law issues, including state responsibility, human rights, law of armed conflict, disarmament, and on engagement with multilateral institutions. She previously worked at the New Zealand Defence Force during the New Zealand Government’s inquiry into allegations of war crimes and breaches of international law, as well as at New Zealand’s Crown Law Office.
Maanya undertook a traineeship in Public International Law and Arbitration at a magic circle law firm in Paris. She has worked as a research assistant on international and public law issues, including at the New Zealand Centre for Human Rights Law, Policy and Practice. She also interned at the Permanent Mission of New Zealand to the United Nations in New York.
