He specialises in a broad range of corporate real estate work, having gained extensive experience from being both in private practice and as an in-house counsel. He advises extensively on local as well as international corporate real estate transactions including direct and indirect acquisitions and disposals of hotels, commercial and industrial buildings and good class bungalows, hotel management agreements, property joint ventures, built-to-suit developments, en bloc transactions and property management arrangements.He also specialises in commercial and industrial leasing, routinely acting for both major landlords and anchor tenants of commercial and industrial buildings in Singapore. His clients include property owners, real estate investment trusts (REIT) managers and trustees, business trusts, property funds, multinational corporations, property developers, local and international investors, statutory boards, banks and financial institutions.
The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2020 to 2023 recognises Chau Hwei for his expertise in Real Estate work. He has received praise for his “outstanding ability to explain legal clauses in a clear and concise manner”. In the 2023 edition, he is noted to be “a seasoned practitioner” and a client commented that he “is an amazing partner, who responds almost always within the hour. Previously, Chau Hwei was general counsel in one of Asia's leading hospitality REIT where he managed and oversaw hotel and hotel-related transactions in Asia Pacific and Europe. He was also a partner with a leading Singapore law firm and a deputy public prosecutor and state counsel with the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Singapore where he versed in civil litigation and criminal prosecution matters.
