Japan into USA M&A Seminar MAY 14th

Since 2019, Japan has been the largest source of foreign direct investment into the US.

According to recent research, Japanese direct investment in the United States reached a staggering $775 billion in 2022, which is three times greater than the investment made in 2009. These figures highlight the strong and enduring economic relationship between the two nations and the tremendous potential for Japanese businesses to thrive in the US market. It is the largest market among developed countries and is expected to continue to grow. With the political and economic ties between Japan and the U.S., the United States is expected to remain one of the most promising investment destinations for Japanese companies. In addition, the growing trend in the U.S. in recent years to introduce measures to promote domestic industry, such as the introduction of preferential policies that require domestic production, is also expected to support the need for investment in the U.S.

We are delighted to invite you to a seminar about M&A into the USA to be held at our Withers Tokyo office. This seminar presents a unique opportunity for Japanese corporates seeking to expand their presence in the American market, and to hear from our experts and thought leaders on existing trends as well as the legal and tax considerations when it comes to cross-border investments.

This seminar will cover:

  • Market overview (sector-specific growth areas, emerging trends, potential challenges)
  • Investment Structures, Contractual Clauses, etc.
  • Laws and regulations related to investment in the U.S. (focusing on recent amendments to competition laws, CFIUS, etc. and practical trends)
  • Overview of the U.S. business environment for PMI (labor laws, privacy protection laws, etc.)
  • Tax implications and structuring
  • Best practices for market entry and operational success

Please note that the seminar will be conducted mainly in Japanese, with English speaker presentations accompanied by Japanese translations.
