Our summer associate program
Our summer associate program
Our summer associate program is designed to provide robust training and exposure to all facets of our practice. Summer associates working with the private client and tax division will receive maximum exposure to the core areas within private client and tax, such as domestic and international wealth planning, income tax, tax controversy and estate administration. Summer associates working within our business and dispute resolutions teams will be exposed to a myriad of matters in the corporate and litigation spaces.
In order for our summer associates to gain experience in all of these areas, we do not operate a formal rotation program. Instead, work is centrally coordinated to ensure that each summer associate receives a good variety of work from a broad pool of attorneys.

Program description
As in years past, we anticipate the 2026 summer program will run from late May through late July. There is a four day in-office requirement throughout the duration of the program. The firmwide orientation is split between our New Haven and New York offices.
All of our summer associates are paid a pro-rated first year associate salary for the duration of the summer program. First year associate compensation is currently set at $170,000 per year in our US offices.
Summer Associates should anticipate receiving work identical to that of a first year associate. This typically include technical research projects, drafting, planning documents and memoranda for clients, and involvement in a variety of transactions for sophisticated clientele with a potential for client contact.
The caliber of the clients in the high net-worth, global community is top notch. Our impressive client base includes entrepreneurs, families and family business, generational wealth, athletes and artists. If you're looking for a career which will challenge you intellectually, at a firm that takes an active interest in your development, you are urged to apply.
Training and development
The firm has a lean associate to partner ratio, enabling you to work closely with senior attorneys and firm leadership. We want you to learn from the best.
We recognize the importance of feedback and coaching, particularly for junior lawyers. In addition to weekly check-ins with the professional development and recruiting teams, all summer associates receive a midsummer review and an end of program review. These reviews are typically administered by a Divisional Group Leader and our Attorney Engagement & Development Manager. They ensure that the work and experience you receive are kept in line with your career aspirations and that your work product reflects the expected level of effort and skill.

Social events
Our social events over the course of the summer are designed to provide opportunities to spend time getting to know the firm, city, and community in which you are resident in a more informal setting. The types of events vary each year, but some examples of popular activities have included cooking classes, an escape room, paint night, a culinary walking tour, and a sunset cruise of the Thimble Islands.
We also encourage our summer associates and attorneys to independently connect throughout the summer as schedules permit.
