Join us in the United States
We visit a number of US law schools each year to recruit students keen to join our summer program.
You may apply for our program through the on-campus interview process or by writing in directly. We require a resume, law school transcript, and writing sample from all prospective summer applicants. Please note that at this time, we are only accepting applications from rising 2L candidates interested in joining our 2024 summer program.
We work hand in hand with families and their advisors, so the ability to form relationships, think outside the box and reach solutions for clients with complex circumstances are important characteristics for a summer associate. As a result, we look for sound judgement and creativity in our candidates, in addition to strong academic credentials.
To submit your application directly, please apply via our online portal (link). For questions on how to apply or any other summer program-related, please contact Jennice Yi, Senior Talent Acquisition Coordinator, at Jennice.Yi@withersworldwide.com.

Our requirements
While we hire summer associates across all three of our divisions (Business, Private Client & Tax, and Dispute Resolution), in general, our summer class is largely comprised of individuals who are interested in joining our private client and tax group. When hiring summers for the private client and tax team, preference is given to candidates with relevant tax, trusts or business experience and/or exposure to international planning.
Our 2023summer program includes summer associates across all three divisions based in the New Haven, New York, and Los Angeles offices. The US and international offices for which we will be hiring 2024 summer associates will be announced prior to on-campus interviews.
Interview tips and advice
During the on-campus interviews, we're largely looking at an individual's communication and presentation skills, as well as their interest in Withers specifically. Once a candidate reaches the callback stage, we spend time probing their technical abilities and long-term career goals.
As we assess an individual's candidacy, we like to keep the following in mind:
- Does the candidate represent themself well and communicate clearly and convincingly?
- Does the candidate have a demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals?
- Does the candidate appear to have the intellectual acuity to provide creative solutions?
- Does the candidate present professionally and in a manner which inspires confidence from clients?
- Do they have a demonstrated interest in Withers?
- Do the individual's personal goals line up with the values of the firm?
- Is the candidate going to be a team player and will they collaborate effectively with others both inside and outside the firm?
- Will they be a good firm citizen?
